Problem

Troubleshoot “Access denied to remote agent” and / or “Authentication failed while connecting to network connection to server” when trying to backup or restore.

Error Message

Reason

An error can occur if one of the following events occurs:

• The connection to Backup Exec services will be disconnected, deleted, or renamed to change the password.
• The website URL for the domain where the controller either changed the fully qualified username to which Backup Exec services will be mapped or is no longer available for authentication.
• LOGIN ACCOUNT has a username that does not match the username assigned to Backup Exec services. This is necessary when backing up from a remote server that does not have a remote agent installed, or even when backing up shared resources.
• Backup The Executive Service Account (BESA) is locked out in Active Directory.

Solution

Unblock BESA (login account withthe Backup Exec system) from Active Directory users and computers.

1. To the control panel | Management Tools | Active Directory Users and Computers.

2. Find BESA | Right click | Features | The “Accounts” tab.

• Make sure you have a login account.
• In this case, re-enter all credentials to be absolutely sure that the Backup Exec database contains a large number of current credentials.
• If the above issue does not resolve the issue, please delete and re-create the system login account. Then, change the Backup Exec Services account to use the same credentials as the logon account. For more information on how to create a login account, see our own docs.

I would suggest checking a few things first, although this is a fairly common mistake: –

1) Leave the Advanced Open File option enabled for the corresponding backup job and install the Microsoft VSS provider.

2) Leave the backup function for files and directories that follow during a symbolic link disabled in the Files and Folders option of the backup job.

2) Run regardless of whether AV scan is running, add exceptions for new Backup Exec processes.
