Follow these instructions to make a linked copy to an unprotected DVD:
- Insert your DVD into our Mac. Most Mac computers will automatically launch the DVD player. Once it starts, exit it. You should see your DVD on your desktop.
- Open Disk Utility (Applications> Utilities). Select DVD from the label on the left. You will see two DVD icons – select the ones that are slightly indented (this is DVD and the first is the drive).
- Click New Image in the main Disk Utility window.
- Select a name and location in the Save As … window. Remember hthen your goal should be enough space to copy the entire DVD, which can be up to four GB in size.
- In the new Save As … window, make sure Image Selection Format is set to DVD / CD-Master and Encryption is set to None. Click Save.
- After copying the target disc to the Family DVD, return to Disk Utility. Your new disk image will appear in the list on the left side of the Disk Utility window. Extract the original DVD from your Mac.
- Insert a recordable DVD CD into your Mac. Select the newly detected disk image from the list on the left side of the Disk Utility window. In the middle window of Disk Utility, click Burn. Select the write speed if you want to check the recorded data.
- You will receive confirmation after your selected DVD has been burned and you will all receive a fresh copy of your DVD. Just save the new disk image and you can back it up if you ever need to. Of course
