Since Windows games mostly work this way, Windows XP was probably left behind when Vista was released in 2007. One of the main advantages of Windows Vista was that due to the new DirectX integration, gamers simply had to upgrade from 10 to a completely new operating system. New versions of DirectX offerbetter sound and picture enhancements for gaming, as well as better performance. So if you’re a specific gamer, you really need the latest DirectX you can get.

DirectX has to be tightly integrated with the operating system wherever it is installed, so you can’t just install DirectX 10 or 11 on XP because that tool won’t work. We are currently using DirectX 11 for Windows Vista, 7 and 8, and the next Windows will likely move from DirectX 12, Windows XP to DirectX 9, which is already 10 years old. Also, some games these days are not backward compatible with DirectX 9 in any way, and you cannot play this game at this time, regardless of whether your graphics card fully supports DirectX 10 and 12 or not.

So what if you want to use DirectX 10 over XP, but Microsoft has never advertised it as supported?

There has been an unofficial attempt to create a DirectX 10 distribution that will allow you to take advantage of some of the upgrade’s benefits. DirectX 10 For XP From LWGame

A Russian group called LWGame at the end of 2008 made another attempt to get DirectX 10 working on XP, you don’t have to do any manual work. Just download the 4MB DirectX10_RC2_Fix_3-Pre-Final.zip installer to the archive at runtime. East

DirectX 10 For XP From KM-Software

This package was released at the end of 2009, so KM-Software continued the work of LWGame with a dozen updates. This previous attempt that we know will make DirectX 10 work is called DirectX 10 NYV (New Years Edition). A number of included fixes and optimizations are as obvious as the fix that previously caused warnings in antivirus software by the new installer.

Like the previous package, this other package is self-filling and everything works autonomously in the installer. During installation, it actually gives you the option to choose from three different versions of DirectX 10; Alky Project, own version of KM-Software and Zlocorp. What is no doubt helpful here is that your start menu has an uninstaller so you can save it from instability or general problems.

There is also a folder called “GraphicX”, an archive that contains a number of human modifications and fixes for some games, as well as options for changing the DirectX version through the registry.

To check which version of DirectX you currently have installed on Windows, very simply open the Run dialog (Win + R) and type the dxdiag you want to try and use DirectX 10 and it will appear as well. Then you can see how well it works for you.

Disable DirectX During Installation

By installing DirectX 10 on your computer and trying it out, you can play or even run a computer game that requires DirectX 9. Performance can drop too, but if you’re desperate, all of these programs are your only hope.
