User Account Control (UAC) is a Windows Vista / 2008 security feature that requires users to access applications and actions that require administrator rights.

To completely disable UAC (not recommended):
1. Click toWindows Start> Control Panel
2. In Control Panel, click User Accounts.
3. In the User and Client Tasks window, click Enable or Disable User Account Control.
4. Uncheck “Use User Account Control (UAC) to protect your entire computer and click OK.”
5. Reboot for the changes to take effect.
Instead of enabling Minimal User Account Control, this can be done from the newly configured Console for Local Security Policies:
To disable administrator approval mode:
1. Press the Windows button, start with the search dialog type: secpol.msc
2. In the local security policy window, navigate to: Local Policies> Security Settings
3. Scroll down to see: “Manage User Account Startup: All Administrators in Administrator Approval Mode Only”
4. Select the “Disabled” policy and click the “OK” button.
5. Close the “Local Security Settings” window.

1. Press this Windows button and run in the search dialog: secpol.msc
2. In the Local pane navigate to: Local Policies> Security Settings
3. Scroll to: “User Management: Account Behavior in Command Prompt for Administrators”
4. Select one of the options:
– follow the prompt without elevation (to automatically perform tasks requiring elevation)
– invite login information (for entering personal name and password for tasks requiring elevation)
– Prompt for consent (default for administrators)
5. Click OK and close the Local Security Settings window.
Note. There is a Local Security Policy Window setting for User Account Control: Growth Incentive Behavior for Standard Users, which can be configured to deny growth requests for standard users or prompt you to ignore the request for non-standard users.
