Sometimes your computer may return an error code pointing to ubuntu 12.04 ppa kernel. There can be many reasons for this problem.

Another thing you can usually change is the kernel version. You can upgrade to kernels if needed in the future, although these new kernels are not officially supported by Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Some of the conditions that can be caused by the old kernel include:
- Unable to wake up from hibernation (legacy power management support)
- High performance use or powerful fan (also thanks to flat power management support).
- No WLAN card detected or other WLAN issues (legacy WLAN chipset support)
- Random freeze or other stability issues (support for legacy motherboard chipsets)
- Window manager crash or other problems Internet (support for outdated video chipsets).
NB: If your USB device or PCI card is not recognized, it may be sufficient to update your final PCI and USB credentials with the following command:
sudo update-pciids && sudo update-usbids
The reason it doesn’t update to the latest version (13.10) is because Ubuntu frequently updates software packages in addition to the kernel. Kernel 3.11 should be loaded after reboot. To keep track of the kernel version after a reboot, simply open a terminal and type “uname -a”.

After reading a lot of guides for updating kernel and even following their advice at http://syntaxionist.rogerhub.com/ubuntu-on-the-lenovo-thinkpad-x230.html to get any kernel. for upgrading ubuntu 12.04 to 3.4 I have constant problems with my bluetooth (actually due to audio and keyboard latency the connection is not supported), I am considering upgrading to an old kernel (eg 3.9 or 3.10).
