    Network Shell (Netsh) is a tool that allows an administrator to configure network devices on Windows devices from the command line. Typically Netsh is used to reset the TCP / IP stack to default settings.

    But Netsh will not only reset the TCP / IP stack, it will completely reset your software adapters. It also resets the specific Windows Firewall in Windows Vista.

    Using Netsh Under Vista

    To use Windows Netsh, you really need to open a command prompt as a manager. There are two ways to do this:

    • Click the button, then start All Programs, then Accessories, then right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, enter the password or provide confirmation.

    1. Click “Start” and type “command” in the search box. Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

    2. Enter commands and press Enter after each command:

      •  netsh int ip reset reset.txt 
      •  reset Netsh winsock 
      •  Netsh-Advfirewall-Reset 
    3. Restart your computer.

    Windows XP

    1. Click “Start “and select” Run “.

    2. Type “command” and press Enter.

    3. Enter the following commands and press Enter for each command:

      •  netsh int ip reset reset.txt 
      •  Reset Winsock Netsh 
      • vista reinstall networking
         Reset Netsh Firewall 

      Note. For these three commands to work correctly on Windows XP, Service Pack 2 (or higher) must be created with the backup order installed. Otherwise, only the first round will work.

    4. Restart your computer.
