Freeze Release (FLR) is a procedure that Blancco Drive Eraser in turn tries when you need to remove known special locks from hard drives and SSDs (also called “freeze locks”). These interlocks partially prevent the correct execution of the low position commands (firmware based delete commands) and can cause the deletion to fail. Such firmware commands are used in some erasure standards (for example, Blancco SSD Erasure, NIST 800-88 Purge, Cryptographic Erasure, BSI-GS / E, BSI-2011-VS, or perhaps even too name a few), some sources of erasure also require them (for example, choosing the “Erase re-mapped sectors” option attached to the disk that reassigned the actual event to these sectors): your process requires you to use one of these standards for erasing or deleting options or to achieve the “cleanup” level is primarily as defined by NIST *, the success of your entire deletion process depends on this outcome of the FLR process.

FLR route is tryingUse the freeze lock to turn the device off and on again: the screen goes black for a few seconds before returning. The user usually encounters (3) situations with problematic equipment:

1. Projection behavior The blackness remains black and the erasing process begins in the background: the drive light starts blinking when the data on the drive is completely erased. In this situation, only the screen is literally missing. The user wants to view the deletion on the computer. A workaround is to monitor the situation through the Blancco Management Console. 2. The TV screen remains black and nothing runs in the background, but the machine is on (lights on, fans on). Usually only the screen is missing, but most drives are recognized and ready to erase if the user often wants to initiate and control the actual erasing process. a workaround is to manage it from the Blancco management console. Once uninstalled, the report is also available from the Blancco Management Console. UstrThe device is not responding (LEDs are usually off, fans are not working). In this situation, the removal of the freeze lock is most likely stopped or failed. There are several ways to do this:
   1. On some older trucks, Freeze may pause the unlock process because the machine has not rebooted in time. Try any key on your keyboard (for example, work screen or sleeve 1 or 2).
   2. Some laptops, including tablets, must be connected (or disconnected) from the docking station for a successful reboot. Other manipulations may include plugging / unplugging the power cord while cycling.
   3. On cars, riding other motorcycles is a function that must be performed when the power is on. Check in BIOS / uefi settings if the machine can freeze and reboot> Normally set “ACPI standby state” to “S3”.
   4. Unlock any sleep or S3 state.
3. BIOS Some consumables may not support the state of the standby S3 model. In this case, try updating Install / downgrade the corresponding BIOS version to enable S3 support. Here are some examples:
   1. If your Microsoft Surface 3 does not allow you to remove old BIOS updates (for example, 1.50410.218), newer BIOS versions (for example, 1.51116.Allow 78) still allow FLR to be performed. to safely erase data from disk without error. Chassis
   2. in Lenovo Tablet X1 (Model 20GHS0S100) BIOS 1.55 or lower supports S3 fast sleep, but BIOS 1.57 and higher no longer support S3 relaxed. If you need to remove new freeze locks on such computers, try downgrading to BIOS version 1.55 or lower.
4. If the previous one does not work, it is likely that the process of removing the freeze lock failed. Then try removing the drive from the specific machine and plugging it into a motherboard that doesn’t cause the freeze (since the freeze lock itself is completely BIOS dependent) or that just freezes and restarts properly.
5. If not, disconnect the signal or power cable from the hard drive. For this neoyou need to do the following:
   
   1. Shut down your computer system.
   2. Disconnect the cable from the player or the four-wire power cord, leaving the signal cable connected. To reduce the risk of electrostatic discharge, always unplug the power cord from the ground. Signal cable is the preferred option and should be tried first. Some machines may not display a “black screen” that appears to restart and allow a man or woman to access the user interface.
