Over the past few days, some of our readers have reported that they have encountered the Windows 7 OSX file system. Windows 7 uses the NTFS listing system, which is by far the most commonly used system. The heart of NTFS is MFT (Master File Table).

Understanding Cluster Sizes
Which file system does Windows 7 use?
NTFS. NTFS, short for NT File System, is the most secure and powerful file system for Windows 7, Vista and XP. It provides security by maintaining access control and ownership, which means you can set permissions so that groups or individual users can access specific files.
Clusters are the smallest units into which hard disk space can be partitioned.SameA hard disk formatted using the traditional Windows FAT system.95 and older operating systems called “DOS” can only65,536 clusters per disk or partition. This means that some, the larger they are, the more difficultThe hard drive, the larger the size of each cluster.
The problem with large clusters is that they waste too much disk space.Each cluster probably does not store more than one application (or parts of a people file); whenIf the file is not using the rest of the cluster, the remaining space will be wasted. TOExample: A 2 GB FAT disk requires a 32 KB cluster size; the last 1KB filea hard disk with a given cluster size of 32 KB takes up 32 KB of disk space; file size 33 KBthe same disk will be sixty-four KB, and so on. Additional 31 over KBto the left of a 33KB file is called white space and therefore cannot be used by anyoneother file types. These shortcuts are littered with thousands of files (mostly tinyduring Windows installation),about lost space onSignificantly, a hard drive can add up to hundreds of megabytes of wasted space.
