If you received a Win98 boot disk image with a CD-ROM error message, today’s blog post will help you.
These floppies may well be the original bootable disks that can be integrated into Microsoft Windows CDs. All CDs except Windows 9x / ME are bootable, not all CDs are bootable, and DOS does not only see the CD-ROM drive unless the user boots it. Hardware manufacturers were required to provide a commercially compatible bootable media CD that came with their systems. By the late 1990s, however, most manufacturers were relying on standardized IDE / ATAPI CD-ROM hardware and the use of these OEM Adaptation Kit (OAK) drivers. If the actual CD drive is not a suitable IDE (such as MKE or Panasonic interface), buyers will need to add their own driver manually. Note. To make things easier, you can use the Windows 98 Learning CD with Windows 95. If you have INCORRECT OEM boot disks with different drivers, please post them.
Release Notes
You can also use it with 95 RTM if you are not using FAT32, and tell scandisk to continue after all errors have occurred.
