I’m here with a friend to get my hard drive repaired. It will not mount and the blank disk utility will not be able to fix it. Data Rescue tells me that it cannot find the file (even with a deep search). When editing, the file rotates and makes noise; Usually temporary tools try to read it, with absolutely no noise. The record is clearly dead (more precisely).

Is DiskWarrior safe?

Does anyone know how this tutorial works (or how DiskWarrior gets item error codes)?

For the last important case (my friend on vacation usually needs data), I tried DiskWarrior. The first program ran for 2 days and displayed a message about the item: “Speed decreased due to hard disk errors: 10’215” (of course, the number increased). Since I had to register with another customer, I eventually gave up on this attempt. With more and more tests, DiskWarrior is preventing me from recovering a real hard drive. When I select it, the message “Unable to restore directory due to hard disk hardware failure (-36.2738)” appears. My last hope is actually I just want to figure out what 2738 means (I think -36 is a well-known Mac OS read / write error code).

I’ve seen similar posts on Google, sometimes with a different error code or (2747 2756), but it seems that no good guy could really tell the difference between these codes, and almost none at all; The only answer to both messages is “Hard drive is not working, please replace it,” which is instructive from a distance.

I want to know what this code means, but I have no significant experience with a working kernel and flashing additional hard drives. I currently suspect that most of the error code (2738) is reported by the firmware of the hard drive (I’m not sure if DiskWarrior will map the codes in its property sheet). Does anyone know how this works (or how DiskWarrior is getting error codes) please?
