Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) can be used to repair dangerous personal folders (.pst) and Outlook data files (.ost). This is useful if your OST information is relatively large (over 5GB) and will take a long time to recover. It can also be useful if you encounter errors while adding data from a PST file.

Important: You canThere is no need to run scanpst.exe several times (5–8). Continue until there is a misunderstanding in the file. Run

Using the Inbox Repair Tool, do the following:

1. Make Outlook useful Outlook is closed.
2. Make sure Show hidden folders and files is checked in all folder options. Scanpst.exe is an awesome hidden file, so you’ll have to tweak it to find it.
   To check this parameter, do the following:
   1. Click Start and then Control Panel.
   2. Double-click the folder options, then switch to view mode.
   3. Make sure Show Hidden Documents and Folders is checked under Hidden Files and Folders and click OK.
3. Click Start and then Search.
4. Enter exe in the search box. If you can’t find the scanpst.exe file after searching, try looking for the file in your hand. Be sure to check the following locations (the location of the file depends on the version of Windows you are using):

5. Double-click the scanpst.exe file to open the program.
6. Click Browse to buy the corrupted PST file.
   By default, most PST files are in your current folders:

• Drive: Users AppData Local Microsoft Outlook
• Drive: Users Roaming Local Microsoft Outlook
• Drive: Users Documents Outlook files
• Drive: Users My Documents Outlook Files
• Drive: Documents and Settings Local Settings Application Data Microsoft Outlook

7. Click Start. The mailbox repair tool will scan the file and report if the idea found any errors. Click “Repair” if any errors are found.

Note. This tool can appear when starting the repair process if the process is safely frozen (not responding in the title bar). In fact, it’s not just great to have a copy of the .pst revert already in the background, or to complete the recovery process. Depending on the size of your PST file and the speed of your hard drive, this may take a while.

If after 10 minutes it still freezes (no hard drive adventures) and the actual repair process has not started yet, you need to start the corresponding scanpst.exe process through the task manager (CTRL + SHIFT + ESC> Processes). Then manually recreate a copy of the PST file and start the restore process, but this time with the backup disabled.

8. If everything is in order, after a while you will receive part of the repair completion dialog. Then,Can you click OK to close it permanently and restart Outlook?

If the new restore process fails, try again. If it crashes repeatedly, but you can still access the file in Outlook, you can actually create a new PST file through Outlook and copy its contents. Step-by-step instructions can be found at: Scanpst.exe is constantly looking for problems.

If you can no longer access the .pst file in Outlook and the history of the .pst file of the Inbox recovery tool cannot be restored, you should initially restore it from a backup or use a third-party recovery tool.

Note. Using scanpst.exe does not always require 100% recovery of damaged OST files. If the did tool doesn’t help, you can try changing your settings completely, repairing Outlook, or contacting support.
