Over the past few days, some readers have reported a Microsoft jscript runtime syntax error in regular expressions.

JScript is Microsoft’s version of ECMAScript that, compared to .NET, supports an extremely private set of regular expression functions. Your biggest problem is that inline modifiers like (? I: xyz) are not supported. Also, there doesn’t seem to be a separate system pass for modifiers, as you certainly can if you are using C # or JScript directly. If you’re case insensitive, you’re pretty much screwed up.

Also note that character class abbreviations like d and W have a different meaning on the user’s server (.NET) than on all clients (JScript ). If you want the whole regex to work the same across many pages, you can be more specific. Here’s a broken example for clarity:

^(? = S8, $) # and eight other non-spaces(? =. * [0-9]) Number at least one digit(? =. * [a-z]) Please enter at least one lowercase letter(? =. * [A-Z]) # at least one specific uppercase(? =. * [^ A-Za-z0-9]) # with at least one non-letter, non-digital(?!. * (?: Pass | Word | God | PASS | WORD | GOD))... + $

As you can see, I’m just excluding lowercase or uppercase pass , word , etc., which is not really a satisfactory option. If you really want prohibitions or case-insensitive words, your whole family may need a different type of validation.

The code contains invalid continuous expression flags. In classic terms Literally composed of all templates between slashes, banners set after the second crack. They can probably also be defined in a constructor function Target RegExp (second parameter). Regular indicator expression can still be used individually or together in many orders, but there are only six of them in ECMAScript.

for a flag using a regular expression, use the following syntax:

indicator	Description

@sbatten That’s the point. / closes the entire regex, so after / everything is syntactically in is shared as code, not as part of everyday expression.

Compare how the correct syntax colors the marker in our snippet (anything after the first slash can be rendered as a comment) and how Eyesight Studio’s code does it where you don’t get any indication that the forward slash was inserted normal expression.

By the way, maybe here’s the actual code, which is still poorly formatted:
