I ran into the same thing when trying to get Apache POI to work on Android. Apache Poi also uses XmlStreamReader. The information described by the docx4java link is a bunch of vulnerabilities, but once the entire library has been recompiled, it can be challenging.

For Apache POI, I found the poi-android library, which probably did the job already and has now made the POI compatible with Android (unfortunately the old POI 3.17, although it works fine in my case).
