Choose A Connection Method

X-Win32 offers several connection methods. You really must have the daemon installed in the computer’s online help system to connect using the network connection method. Of the connection methods, as a rule, noOnly SSH is safe.

SSH

SSH is a secure shell protocol. It is usually available on modern Unix / Linux systems. It is received, encrypted, and can easily tunnel firewalls. You can run any command used by the terminal emulator on the absolute desktop. Try SSH if you are not sure what options are currently available on the server side, or if you are familiar with the command line.

XDMCP

XDMCP Terminal is without a doubt the X Display Manager control protocol and allows you to access a remote desktop as if you were sitting in front of your computer. When you log in, you will be presented with a screen recording of the meeting, followed by full access to the PC’s desktop. XDMCP is very common in the world. botechnical laboratories, where the system administrator provides remote access. XDMCP communicates over UDP output 177, then DISPLAY returns to TCP port 6000. Rexec, RLogin, Rsh, Telnet

The Telnet and R commands are often a series of protocols that this time became obsolete with the advent of SSH. These commands are usually no longer added by default to the remote system. You should only use these protocols if your PC administrator specifically instructed you to use them in the market (and if SSH is not available)

The command method is used to launch an executable file on the local Windows system. X applications are rarely installed locally on Windows in single window mode.

X-Win32 license from IT department for use on department computers. X-Win32 is almost certainly aI am a homeowner X11R6 compatible with X Windows for Windows 95, 98, ME, NT4.0, 2003 and Windows XP. It supports multiple access mechanisms and can be combined with a running Windows SSH client to support secure X11 sessions.

X-win32 With X-Win32-Putty

Run
1. on your PC (All Programs -> X-Win32 8.0 -> X-Win32)
2. If you haven’t already, download the putty here <. low / li>
3. Apply a fill
4. Enter the following in Putty: compute.cs.columbia.edu in the Hostname field.
5. Click “Connection” -> “SSH” -> “Tunnel”.
6. Check all the Enable X11 Forwarding boxes
7. Go when you need a “session”
8. Type: CS compute cluster in “recorded sessions”
9. Click “Save” to save it for future use.
10. Click the Open button. A new window should appear.
11. Enter your username and password to login.
12. Once you are connected to the cluster, select: “xterm &” and you will see an Xterm window open. (Sometimes Xterm launches a window behind all other windows. X)
13. Any GUI program like Matlab Mathematica will open a new window if you run it from the admin line.

X-win32 With StarNetSSH

StarNetSSH remotely solves the interoperability issue as shown below.

1. Select Star-> All Programs-> Xwin32-> X-Config-> Manual-> StarNetSSH
2. Enter information as follows:

Host: clic.cs.columbia.edu (or whatever CS hostname you really want to connect to)

Entry: Pending CS Unix entry

Command: xterm &

Password: CS Unix account password

1. Write down someone’s point of view and make a shortcut on your desktop.
2. Usually click the save icon on the desktop to open the first Xterm window.
