Windows Disk Cleanup can scan your hard drive for files that may have been deleted from your computer in the first place without affecting its functionality, as well as for your personal files:

• Java Applets or ActiveX Controls
• Files in the recycle bin if the recycle bin has not been emptied recently.

Run Windows XP Disk Cleanup

To run Disk Cleanup on a specific Windows XP machine, you can run this concept from My Computer or from the command line.

Run From My Computer

1. Click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. Enter OK cleanmgr
4. click or press Enter

To open Disk Cleanup on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer, follow these steps:

1. Click to start.
2. All Programs> Accessories> System Programs
3. Click Clean Up Disk.
4. Under Files That Can Be Deleted, select the type of files and then the folders to be deleted.
5. Click OK.
6. To remove system files that are largerare unnecessary, click Clean up system files. Maybe you are
   asked UAC (User Account Control) to confirm this action.
7. Click Delete Files.

• Under Programs and Features, click Clean to remove personal files that you no longer need.
• Under System Restore and Shadow Copies, click Cleanup to remove any restore points other than the last one.

Run From The Command Line

How to open Disk Cleanup from the Windows Vista or Windows 7 command line:

1. Open Command Prompt
2. Enter cleanmgr

Run From My Open Computer

1. Enter disk cleanup in the search bar.

• Run Disk Cleanup as administrator.
• Delete files and folders manually, but log in as administrator. If Disk Cleanup fails when deleting temporary files from Internet Explorer, manually remove the permissions for temporary programs on the current system.
• Run the sfc / scannow command. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open Command Prompt
  2. Enter sfc / scannow / offbootdir = D: / offwindir = D: Windows , where D: is your Windows drive letter and D: Windows is the Windows installation path < / li>
