Due to a strange result, Microsoft decided to leave this feature enabled by default and put it in an additional feature set called “Desktop Experience.Your”.
If your hard drive is full and your company wants to perform a disk cleanup, there are two ways to activate the Disk Cleanup tool. We recommend using option 2 below for several reasons:
– When installing the Desktop E componentxperience installs not only Disk Cleanup, but many other utilities that are probably not needed on the server (voice recorders, desktop themes, etc.)
1) Go to & Program Features and activate / set Desktop Features under Features. The downside is likely that after installation you will have to restart the separate server and add other components that you do not need on the server.
2) [RECOMMENDED] – All you really need to do is copy some documents that you already have on your hosting server to some system folders located at http://technet.microsoft.com/en – are listed. us / library / ff630161 (WS.10) .aspx
The location of the files you actually need to copy depends on your version of Windows:

Windows Server 2012 R2: Desktop Experience must be installed. Use the Powershell command:
Install-WindowsFeature Do you have any desktop experience
Once the files are found, move them to the following locations to support them (additional server 2012 without R2, earlier):
- Copy Cleanmgr.exe to% systemroot% System32.
- Copy Cleanmgr.exe.mui to% systemroot% System32en-US.
You can now run a specific disk cleaner by running Cleanmgr.exe from the command line.

Disk Cleanup removes unneeded presentations in a Windows Server environment. This program is available by default in Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2016, but someone might need to follow some normal steps to activate it on older Windows Server alternatives.
How do I enable Disk Cleanup in Windows?
In the summary box of the taskbar, type disk cleanup and select Disk cleanup in the results report.Select the drive you want to clean up and then click OK.In the Files to Delete section, select the file types you want to delete. To classify a file type, select it.Select OK.
To run Disk Cleanup, run Cleanmgr.exe, locate or run it, select Windows Administration Tools, and then select Disk Cleanup.
You can also postpone disk cleanup with the cleanmgr Windows while command. Use command line parameters to specify that Disk Cleanup should clean up specific files.
Enable Disk Cleanup For A Previous Version Associated With Windows Server By Installing Desktop Experience
Follow these steps to use the Add Roles and Features Wizard to install Desktop Experience on Windows Server 2012 R2 orand earlier, which also configures Disk Cleanup.

If Server Manager is open, you can proceed to the next step. If Server Manager isn’t open, you can already be honest by doing one of the following.

On Windows, start the Desktop Server Manager by simply clicking Server Manager on the Windows taskbar.

Go to the Start menu and select the Server Manager tile.

From the Manage menu, select Add Roles and Features.

On the Before You Begin sheet, make sure your target server and operator environment are prepared to use the feature the experts say they want to install. Select “Next”.

On the Select Installation Type page, select Or Role and Feature Based Installation to install all features on a single server. Select “Next”.

On some of the Select Server Destination pages, select a computer from the server pool or a useful offline VHD. Select “Next”.

On the Select Internet Roles page, click Next.

On the Select page, select User Interface and Infrastructure, then select Desktop Experience.

In the Add Desktop Needed Features? select the Add Features option.

Proceed with the installation, and then restart your computer.

Make sure you see the Disk Cleanup Utility button in the Properties dialog box.

Manually Add Disk Cleanup To Previous Windows Server Translation
Disk Cleanup (cleanmgr.exe) does not exist in Server Windows 2012 R2 or earlier unless Desktop Experience is installed.
To use cleanmgr.exe, install the Experience desktop as described earlier, or copy the two existing server-related files, cleanmgr.exe and cleanmgr.exe.mui. Usually, depending on your operating system, use the following table to find files.

You can run Disk Cleanup as quickly as possible by running the Cleanmgr.exe command from the command line, or by clicking the Start button and typing cleanmgr in the scan panel.
For the Disk Cleanup button to look great in the Disk Properties dialog box, you also need to install the Desktop Experience component.
