How to calculate checksum of NMEA?

If the device is transmitting NMEA0183 paragraphs, a checksum can be added at the end of the message. If so, an asterisk (*) appears at the beginning, followed by the hexadecimal representation of the binary XOR operation for all characters, regardless of where the “$” and “*” characters appear. Check NMEA0183 Sentence
To verify that the NMEA0183 sentence containing the checksum field is ok, paste the NMEA0183 sentence into its text box in the second section associated with the application. When you click the “Checkit ”, you can define the reported and calculated checksums. If they match, the NMEA0183 sentence is valid.
For example, to check the box when inserting the phrase “$ GPVTG, 230.0, T, 231.3, M, 3.0, N, 5.6, K, D * 24″ in the entire second text, the calculated checksums will necessarily appear in the results zone, in particular: ” Record checksum = [0x24], calculated checksum is [0x24], result = OK “. It also checks for invalid characters, which are not always supported by the NMEA0183 standard.
