It is highly recommended that you update Windows 7 to protect yourself from the WannaCry, WannaCrypt, Specter, Meltdown, PrintNightmare and Uiwix threats associated with Windows 7.

Context

Windows 7 Standard Support ended a few years ago, so Extended Support ended in January 2020. Enterprise customers will continue to be offered additional security updates until 2023.

In the hopes of simplifying the update process for this new installation, in May 2016, Microsoft removed the “Convenience Rollup”, which includes many of the post-Service Pack 1 updates for Windows 7, a very significant number of updates. , there are a few more that are not related to the problem, and finding and installing these additional updates mMay take some time. Microsoft notes that this was intentional:

We have deliberately not only included some of the SP1 improvements in handy rollup 3125574, to which all of our following terms apply:

• They are not widely used.
• They make changes to the behavior.
• They require additional operator actions, for example, setting registry parameters.

One of the biggest issues users of the handy rollup is experiencing is Windows when an update gets stuck on “Check for Updates” and the graph keeps spinning without showing any progress.

Paul Thurrott posted a helpful article in 2016 titled “Convenience Makes Rollup a Big Benefit, But Divers Windows Update Still Doesn’t Work.” He then revamped the article and writes that after two different hours of waiting, Windows Update was finally able to offer to install additional updates.

Now, as an example, I would like to give somesolutions available on the market when Windows Update crashes or freezes while checking for updates in Windows 7.

Windows 7 Upgrade Instructions

Before proceeding, make sure you have 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) Windows and Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed on your computer.

1. Open the system by clicking the Start button, right-clicking Computer and choosing Properties.

Microsoft customers who license Extended Security Updates actually receive new rollups and other features every month. What To Do If You Have Problems After Using The Above Method

While the steps above can update Windows 7 very well for most users, problems can still arise. In some cases, Windows Update will be completely canceled.

1. Close the Windows update window.
2. Stop Windows Update Service
   1. Run Command Prompt as Administrator (Start> All Programs> Accessories> right-click Command Prompt> select Run Both As Administrator)
   2. Enter the following command: net give up wuauserv

3. Run the Microsoft FixIt tool to fix Windows update problems.
4. Install the latest version of Windows Update Agent.
   • Make sure you select the correct entry for your operating system and technology type.
5. Restart your computer.
6. Run Windows Update again

This should also fix most Windows update issues. However, Microsoft has published a detailed article that suggests several methods to fix Windows Update errors. If you are still having problems with Windows 7 updates after exhausting several methods, it is recommended that you check the specific issue on Microsoft TechNet. Alternatively, it might be worth upgrading to Windows 10.
