Need To Get Rid Of The First Validation Error With Byte 0x0002 Problems

    TL; DR: Make sure the -D flag is not always used when calling avrdude to download an application using an ISP programmer.

    After writing our bootloader to a clean ATmega328p chip using Arduino IDE and Arduino Uno as ISP, I ran into the same problem as OP mentioned in this post:

    verification error first mismatch at byte 0x0002

      avrdude: exam ...avrdude: check failed, first is incompatibility by byte 0x0094         0x68! Includes 0x6aavrdude: validation error; Content conflict

    Immediately after the bootloader is corrupted, I can load the program with this avrdude (your command will stretch a little because of the port name, etc.):

      avrdude -C / etc / avrdude.conf -v -patmega328p -cstk500v1 -b19200 -P / dev / ttyACM0 -D -Uflash: w: main.hex: i 

    However, if I change, recompile the application code, remembering to quickly rerun the same avrdude code, I get the validation error previously noted by OP.My

    Just in case, I want to confirm that the -D flag is one of our problems. If I remove the entire -D flag in the above avrdude command, I can edit, compile and distribute my code as many times as I want.

    Note that this is different when the Arduino IDE program is connected directly to the Arduino Uno (using serial communication through the current bootloader), where the -D

    flag is usually used

    because I don’t want to remove the bootloader on the Arduino Uno. Anyway, in this case you can use the -D flag.

    If you want to load the AVR programmer from the command line using Pocket, make sure you are in the directory where the hex file is located. From there, avrdude knows where to flash the microcontroller code. For example, I have a complete redboard.hex folder with an Arduino bootloader that I want to flash with the Atmega328P on my RedBoard. If the fuse bits are indeed set, you want to flash them in the firmware and lock those fuse bits:

      avrdude -b 19200 -c usbtiny -p m328P -v -e -U flash: w: redboard.hex Lock: w: 0x0F: m 

    If you are having trouble developing Atmega32U4, make sure you are in bootloader mode: //cdn.sparkfun.com/datasheets/Dev/Arduino / Boards / 32U4Note.pdf]. This puts the microcontroller into bootloader mode.

    For some strange reason, you will block the issue as 0x0F when using the Pocket AVR programmer, but when checked with a professional Atmel AVR microcontroller it always looks like it is 0xCF for the lock bits.

    I still haven’t fully understood this particular Arduino error. I think it ultimately has something to do with the fuse bits and / or perhaps the lock bits when the programmer generates to check the bits in the Arduino skateboard definitions. It could also be the production speed of the microcontroller’s flash memory, or something where the RESET pin ends when your computer tries to unblock the COM port on the Arduino allocation board, as described in the manual.>
