Symptoms

When you try to look in Windows Task Manager, you get the following error:

Task Manager has been disabled by your wonderful administrator.

Reason

1. You are using an account logged on through Local Group Policy or Domain Group Policy.

2. Certain registry settings prevent the use of the Task Manager.

Resolution

1. Make sure a local or domain policy group is not preventing you from using Task Manager.

   • Local Group Policy

     1. Select Start> Run, type Gpedit.msc paired with and press Enter.

     2. Go to the User sectionShareholders> Administrative Layout Templates> System> Ctrl + Alt + Delete Options.

     3. Note that on the right side of the screen, the Uninstall Task Manager option is permanently set to Disabled or Not Configured.

     4. Close MMC Gpedit.msc.

     5. Select Start> Run, type gpupdate / force and press Enter.

        Note

        If you are using Windows 2200, follow step e in KB 227302 instead. Use SECEDIT to force an immediate Group Policy refresh.

   • Domain Group Policy

     Contact your local IT team.

2. Check if your registry settings are correct:

   1. Select Start> Run, type regedit and press Enter.

Step 1. Create a new nice Notepad file on the Windows Ten desktop.

Step 2. Enter the codes below through the editor and save them to a fileDisableTaskMgr a.reg.

Step 3. Double-click the DisableTaskMgr.reg file. Click Yes when prompted in the User Account Control dialog box. And click Yes if you are convinced by the warning message below.
